Travel to Kyiv

How to get to Kyiv + how to get to the center

If you’re flying to Kyiv you have two airports to choose from: Zhuliany and Boryspil.

Kyiv Zhuliany International airport (for low-cost airlines mostly) is located in the city.

You have the public transport stop 3 minutes walking from the terminal (you need to go straight from the building and shortly you will see the stop on your left side, next to the main road) and for as little as 5 UAH you can be in the center. Trolleybus No 9 takes you directly to the center (Lev Tolstoy Square), passing the train station and University metro station along the way. There’re also other minibuses and trolleys going to Shulyavska metro station from where you can easily go everywhere.

If you land in the evening you can take Uber, there is free wifi at the airport so you can arrange everything easily. Taxis charge around 300 UAH. If you don’t want to deal with all the hassle after arriving just book the private transfer to the center.

Kyiv Boryspil International airport, the main airport, is located some 40 minutes away from the city.

Since December 2018, it is possible to travel by train between the airport and Kyiv, a big improvement for travellers at the airport. Boryspil Airport railway station is located 100 metres north of Terminal D and easy to reach. The Kyiv Boryspil Express train runs once or twice an hour between the airport and the main railway station Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi, the only stop after 20 minutes is Darnytsia in the eastern part of Kyiv. Travel time from Kyiv Boryspil Airport to Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi is 40 minutes.

The trains offer comfortable seats and ample space for luggage. Train tickets cost 80 UAH for adults and 60 UAH for children, these are available from the ticket machines in Terminal D and at the train stations in Kyiv. It is only possible to pay by card, cash payment is not possible. The train also runs at night, but only once every two hours. The train in the direction of Kyiv Boryspil Airport leaves from platform 14. Please consult website and timetable Kyiv Boryspil Express for more information.

Sky Bus to Kyiv

There is a bus service, called Sky Bus (line 322), which links Kyiv Boryspil Airport with the main railway station Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi. The buses are recognizable by the striking purple colours and leave from Terminal D, the bus stop is on your left as you walk out of the terminal. Since 2019, Terminal F also has a bus stop. The bus terminus in Kyiv is located at the back side of the central train station, in the front (city side) you will find metro station Vokzalna from where metro line 1 runs. The main railway station is also known as Pivdennyi (South Terminal) Railway Station. Sky Bus runs every 15 minutes to and from the city, at night every 30 to 45 minutes.

To everyone’s satisfaction, the bus service is available 24 hours a day. Travel time is approximately 60 minutes. On the route, Sky Bus makes a stop at metro station Kharkivska (60 UAH) in the southeast of Kyiv. Depending on the location of your hotel, it may be quicker to change to metro line 3 here. A metro ticket costs 8.00 UAH per journey. Tickets can be purchased in advance through the Sky Bus website or on-site from the ticket counters or bus driver. On board the bus you can only pay with cash. Please consult website and timetable Sky Bus and buses to and from Kyiv Boryspil Airport for more information.

Taxi to Kyiv

The distance between the airport and the city centre (Maidan Nezalezhnosti) is 35 kilometres / 21.7 miles. By car, it takes at least 30 minutes to cover the distance. Taxis charge around 600 UAH

You can also book the private transfer to the center and enjoy a hassle-free ride.

If you arrive in Kyiv by train you need to take the metro to get to the center.

There’s a metro stop Vokzalna next to the train station. When you exit the main hall you need to go left to the round building some 50 meters away (or just follow the people and look for the M sign).

3 metro stops and you’re at Maydan Nezalezhnosti, the main square in Kyiv.
